Alice L. Edwards papers, 1895-1962.

These papers were generated and collected by Alice L. Edwards. They document her career as a home economist and include materials related to her personal life. The collection contains correspondence, publications, articles, certificates and two diaries kept by Edwards on a trip to Europe in 1925. The first series is comprised of professional correspondence relating to her work with the American Home Economics Association and her work with the National Canners Association. The third series includes book reviews, consumer education articles, papers submitted by Edwards to Columbia University for completion of her Ed. D. degree, and materials related to the Langworthy Dietary Survey. The fourth series contains materials related to Oregon Agricultural College. Of particular note is a collection of 25 responses to a survey questionnaire Edwards sent to classmates of the OAC 1905-06 Home Economics program regarding the effectiveness of the program and how it helped their lives. Two diaries comprise the fifth series. They were kept by Edwards during her trip to Europe in 1925 with the World Student Christian Federation. The sixth series includes a group photograph of the opening of the Celilo Canal on the Columbia River in 1913. Series eight includes Edwards' college transcripts, letters of reference and newspaper clippings regarding her publications and career advancement.

Alumna Alice Leora Edwards was born April 19, 1882 in Monroe, Oregon. She graduated from Oregon Agricultural College (later Oregon State University) in 1906 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She received her M.A. degree in 1917 from Columbia University and her Ed. D. from Columbia University Teachers College in 1940.
